The beach is full of pebbles combined with sand and its waters are green and crystal clear. Its waters are usually cold because of the springs. For those who love diving is the right place for them.
There are umbrellas and deck chairs, as well as a canteen on a rock in the sea, from where you can buy the necessary ones. Glyka Nera is popular with campers, while the eastern part of the beach is mainly occupied by nudists. It is one of the first beaches of nudists in Crete. Its name came from the freshwater springs that spill over and into the sea. These springs are scattered throughout the beach.
Access to the beach is done in two ways. The first way is by boat. There are daily trips from Sfakia or Loutro to Glyka Nera.
The second way is to drive from Sfakia to Anopoli, and within 2.5 km you will see the entrance of the path to your left. This path is part of the European Path E4. The duration of the descent is 30 minutes. Particular attention is needed because in some places it is rather steep.
Additionally, this path after Glyka Nera continues to Loutro and the descent lasts about 1 hour.

Beach " Glyka Nera"
Glyka Nera beach is 4 km away from Sfakia and 75 km. south of Chania. It is hidden among the Leuka Orh and the mountains of Sfakia. It is surrounded by large rocks that create awe and give deep shade.

Beach " Ilingas"
Ilingas is an amazing turquoise-water sandy beach, 1km west of Chora Sfakion and 74km south of Chania city. Iligas is located at the end of Kavi Gorge, that starts close to Anopolis. There are three beaches, separated by amazing sea caves.
The main beach is longer and can be accessed by walking a short distance from the main road of Sfakia-Anopolis. The rest beaches are located to the east of the former and can be accessed only by boat or by swimming from the main beach.
There is one small tavern with rooms to let on the main Iligas beach, but there are more amenities in Chora Sfakion. Iligas is one of the nicest easily accessible beaches of south Crete. There are many caves on all three beaches, in which you can keep yourself in shadow. It's quite easy to access and is close to Sfakia, so you can visit that by walking from Sfakia (taking 10-15 min).

The small seaside village of Loutro is located on the Mouri cape in southern Crete, at a distance of 70 km from Chania Town. It’s really picturesque, and its authentic atmosphere has not been spoiled in the slightest by mass tourism. For instance, you can’t find any big hotels with swimming pools or fancy restaurants in the village. You can't even drive a car! Its name means bath and was possibly taken from the many ancient baths found in the region, whose water was probably coming from the mountainous town of Anopolis.

A small seaside village located on the south coast of Crete, Greece, about 12 km. east of Chora Sfakion and within the prefecture of Chania. The castle was built by the Venetians in 1371-74 as a garrison to impose order on the rebellious Sfakia region, to deter pirates, and to protect Venetian nobles and their properties. The extensive, sheltered, and gently shelving sandy beach of Frangokastelo is truly magnificent, with sand and shallow turquoise waters, ideal for children. It is poorly organized and is quite busy in summer (July, August). Please note that often irritating winds coming from the South, transporting the sand with strength, which is so pleasant.
West of the main beach you will find the long beach Vatalos, which is sandy and has pebbles and rocks in parts, making it ideal for snorkeling. Walking 300m east from the main beach for 10 minutes, you will find the magnificent beach of Orthi Ammos, famous for the large sand dunes.
It is famous for its Venetian castle of the same name, which is preserved in very good condition, its beautiful beaches and the Drosoulites, the ghosts which appear at Frangokastello at dawn each May.
This phenomenon is internationally known as a mirage. Considered as a kind of reflection, it has also been observed in other parts of the world with extensive bare soil areas that become overheated by the sun. Local people claim that these forms are the shadows of the warriors who died there in 1828, at the same period, and they were named Drosoulites because they appear with the morning dew (in Greek: δροσιά- drosia).
Many monuments were built in the area through the centuries, but very few survive today. Most were destroyed in the wars and risings in the area, and the stones from their ruins used to build the castle.
